Born and raised on a working family farm in deep East Texas, identical red-headed twins Katy Lou and Penny Lea Clark learned the value of hard work and the real goodness of country living. With music in their family blood, it came as little surprise when the twins made their way after high school to study bluegrass music at South Plains College in Levelland, TX, and afterward moved to Music City, Tennessee, where they quickly gained work touring as backing musicians for various country artists, working for the Grand Ole Opry, and writing songs for Nashville’s biggest publishing company, Sony ATV. After five busy years in Nashville and the Lord leading them back to their home state, The Purple Hulls continue their music career based from their family farm (where they grow purple hulls peas-their namesake!) and have blazed the road sharing their authentic, high energy pickin’ and sibling harmony at festivals, churches, and venues across the horizons of America and Europe. 

Join The Purple Hulls in the Black Box Theater for an evening of high-energy bluegrass, great songs and their signature sibling harmonies. And with the holidays just around the corner, expect a few holiday favorites along the way.

The Black Box Songwriter Series features singer-songwriters in an intimate, listening-room setting. Since its inception in 2015, the series has attracted a variety of celebrated songwriters, such as Gretchen Peters (“Independence Day”), Susan Gibson (“Wide Open Spaces”), Walt Wilkins (“Trains I Missed”), and numerous award-winning troubadours. Both newcomers and veteran songwriters have played the series and given fans a chance to hear incredible songs as well as the stories behind them.
