Calling all songwriters! Whether you're a seasoned pro or new to the stage, join Acoustic Fridays (sponsored by the Visual Art League of Lewisville) for its quarterly Songwriting Challenge. This free event gives singer-songwriters—and listeners alike—the chance to experience the courageous and beautiful art of original songwriting.
Come to perform:
Each Songwriting Challenge features a designated theme to guide participants, and this event’s theme is “Still Truckin’.” Emcee Eric Smith, who founded the program 15 years ago, is proud to celebrate its 60th challenge this season—proof that the tradition is truly still truckin’ along thanks to the creativity of local songwriters and the support of the Visual Art League and Lewisville Grand Theater.
Songwriters are invited to create and debut original songs written specifically for this theme. Performances may be solo or include an accompanist, with acoustic instruments (including amplified acoustic guitars) or a cappella. Exceptions to the acoustic rule include keyboards and electric bass.
There are just two rules: songs must be newly written for this challenge and debuted at the event. The challenge begins at 7 p.m. Performers are encouraged to arrive by 6:45 p.m. to sign up for a performance slot.
Come to listen:
Free and open to the public, the concert begins at 7 p.m. and continues until all songwriters have performed. Join us for an evening of original music and community spirit!
